I DID IT!!!!

I can hardly believe I have completed this task. I have been exposed to a lot and the amazing thing is that in the time since this has been created new sites such as "Twitter" have become the rage. That is the wonderful and the frustrating thing about IT. It takes a time to learn the different things which are available and soon they are passe or obsolete. I need to get a digital camera to use some of the sites and be able to post pictures and so on but I loved going on sites and finding my nieces or other family members had joined and now are keeping in touch with me through various ways. All of that is very wonderful. I also think it will be able to help folks find some sites although most of what we offered are used by folks who are pretty savy already. I makes me feel more up to date in my skills and I appreciate that very much.

gaming

It was interesting to check out the free Yahoo games. I have watched coworkers play these games and did not know exactly where they came from. I also enjoyed looking for the children's games. I don't know if I would use these myself but I appreciate having learned where they are to help our patrons.

Maps

I spent a fair amount of time on Google Earth. It is amazing and you could get lost in this sight.

Overdrive Downloads

I have downloaded a book from the overdrive collection. This is a great deal.

Avatars and second life

I created an avatar in both of the recommended web sites. I found the Gai Tech one hard to use. It was fun! I had taken a class on Second Life and found it interesting but weird. I am busy enough figuring out my REAL life and real job and do not need to create an alter ego in an online universe.

Online Applications...

I explored and tried several of the online free applications. Google documents had a cute birthday reminder list as well as alot of Christmas letter backgrounds and organization charts for shopping lists and so on. Also found the Zoho writer interesting but did not find as much that I understood there. Seemed there were alot of things for more techy people than I. I learned alot in my research though.

Search Engines

I enjoyed this section and enjoyed learning about different search engines. I was unable to come up with a specific enough search to highlight the differences.

Podcasting

I was able with help from co-workers to set two feeds to my Google Reader which pod cast. I also set up a feed --not podcasting--which will help in work with book discussion groups. A good session.

Image Generators

This section had alot of applications which I did not understand. I found them interesting but felt it was abit time consuming and too much like play on work time to completely explore. I did do a Monopoly card with my own script.

Tagging

I have used some of the tagging sites such as "Delicious" but have not fully developed them. I guess I do not have enough favorite items that I can't find them on each computer I use--I only use my work computer for certain things so don't need as much as I do at home.

YouTube and Hula

I was familiar with these two sites--have enjoyed both of them very much.

Wiki Fun

In Stanwood we were introduced to a wiki by Jane Lien who set one up to provide current procedures and information for the Stanwood Staff. I appreciate that it is there and all the work she put into it. I don't know if we actually are using it exactly right but there are so many ways for staff to communicate, I think we forget this one at times.

Friend Networks

I have been a member of GoodReads and Librarything in the past. I joined Eons and Facebook for this exercise. Wow--lots to absorb and take in.

Streaming Music

I joined Pandora and created a music station but did not think the selection was very large--I think I limited the choices too much. I enjoyed the Sno-Isle classical music on line. It has some wonderful selections and I will use this alot.

RSS Feeds

I think this is a way to get a GREAT deal of information quickly. It is overwhelming and I find that I tend to not keep up with it. I enjoy what I have read in the feeds I created but I don't have time or the inclination to read all of them or keep up with them daily.

So much of the tech stuff gives us so much info and of course not more time to process it.

Instant Messaging

I have not used IM or chat technology before so this has been a new experience. I have only chatted with one of my co-workers who was a few feet from me when we did it. I'm sure it could be fun.

Progress

I have made some progress just by finding this blog again and being able to sign in and post. I do not know how to read anyone else's posts though.

I think we should have a list of everyone who is currently taking 2.0 in Sno Isle and we could keep in touch with each other. Maybe I will e-mail someone about that--but I don't have their addresses. Have to talk to them in person first, I guess.

Insecurity

I am insecure about setting up a blog and unsure of how I will use this blog. However, it is always good to learn something new. Pam C
